Pregabalin is an analogue of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid. It has analgesic and anticonvulsant activity.
Indications
Pregabalin is an anti epileptic used as an adjunct in the treatment of partial seizures with or without secondary generalization. It is also used in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder and neuropathic pain.
Precautions
Dizziness, somnolence, and blurred vision may impair a patient’s ability to perform skilled tasks such as driving.
Use in pregnancy: Pregabalin should not be used in during pregnancy. Breast feeding is not recommended in women taking Pregabalin.
Side Effects
Dizziness, diplopia, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth, constipation, somnolence, vomiting, flatulence, euphoria, confusion, reduced libido, erectile disfunction, irritability, vertigo, ataxia, tremor, dysarthria, paraesthesia, fatigue, and oedema.
